The book 'Readings in the Sunnah' is accompanied by a section containing the readings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by Abi `Amr Hafs bin `Umar al-Duri. It elucidates how God, in fulfilling His promise of preserving His Book, appointed trustworthy companions who learned it directly from the Prophet. They committed it to memory and preserved all its readings and narrations. Successive generations took on the task of maintaining and understanding its readings in different aspects. Over time, these readings spread across the regions, carried by generations who diligently distinguished between the common and obscure, the authentic and the invalid, based on sound scientific foundations. This led to the classification of seven, ten, or fourteen reciters due to their prominent role in transmitting this knowledge and teaching it to others. The book explores these phases, analyzing them, and explaining the kinds of readings, their rules, origins, and the status of the rare among them.
