After the sphericity of the Earth was proven, the topic of projection became a subject of great interest and research. The idea of the polar stereographic projection was the beginning of the right direction and the first step on the path of scientific study of the concept of perspective projection. It was followed by other steps that crystallized the foundations of this science, especially at a time when scientific movement and geographical discoveries were active. Because scale is used in all maps and planar diagrams, the book initially addresses the topic of 'Scale', clarifying the scale factor, geographical location, and circles of longitude and latitude. It then moves on to 'Coordinate Systems' to facilitate the study of projections as much as possible, covering planar coordinate systems, the polar (circular) planar coordinate system, spherical triangles, and angle determination, among others. Since the purpose of projections is to transfer part or all of the features of the spherical Earth's surface to a flat surface with the least possible error and distortion in the relationships between a point's location and its surrounding points, the book presents the 'Distortion resulting from converting the spherical shape to the planar shape', explaining linear distortion, and distortion of angles, area, and equidistant projections.
