In this study, we examine fourteen novels from the Greater Maghreb countries as models of Maghrebi narrative fiction that deals with politics and its corrupt manifestations in these nations. We explore how each of these novelists succeeded or failed in expressing this collective concern that connects these countries. Perhaps what prompted us to dedicate this study solely to political corruption in the Maghrebi novel, to the exclusion of other Arab countries, is the observation of a great abundance of Maghrebi novels that take this corruption as their fictional subject. If we agree that literature is a true mirror of reality, reflecting its manifestations and its social, political, and cultural movements, then the preoccupation of the Maghrebi narrative movement with political corruption in its works is evidence that corruption in this region—unique in its culture, history, and ethnicity—carries a singular impact on the dynamics of these societies, which are trying to rid themselves of it, even if through criticism via fictional writing.
