How can I write her story? How do I narrate all those tales without mentioning her story? Any reference to matters related to her will be recognized by at least five hundred people in Beirut, Paris, and London. Those five hundred will undoubtedly tell three times as many, and the scandal would be resounding. How can her story be written without anyone she knows recognizing it? It seems impossible.
These are stories of desire, the wildness of the body, life, chastity, betrayal, marriage, and the bliss of passion, set against the backdrop of open hells under oppressive occupation and testimony on the paths of its fighting. These tales might appear to contrast the longing for life with the desire for death, or between Eros and Thanatos, but they are in essence stories of life even as they recount poverty, misery, and displacement, as they triumph for hope and divine benevolence.
Nineteen stories across three chapters take us from the south to London and Beirut. From suffering, occupation, and poverty, the narrative leaps to the West's unfettered liberation, returning to the capital and its nights, in a flowing and beautiful language.
