In this book, I find myself obliged to offer some necessary introductions. It is about a poet who, by the standards of modern criticism, can be described as a classicist, drawing from a poetic sensibility shaped by his upbringing and early culture. He is also a physician who has carved an influential path in medicine within his local environment, and indeed, throughout the entire Arabian Gulf. He remained as devoted to poetry as to medicine, so much so that his specialization in the heart seems to be the very thing that unites them; for can a poet exist without a heart? This book does not encompass all of Dr. Hajar Al Binali's poetry but is limited to his poems about Palestine. These poems are numerous, perhaps because Palestine was with him in his youth, prompting his tongue to eloquence in poetry about it, and it remained a fundamental driver and a constant preoccupation for him. This situation is akin to that of Abu Firas al-Hamdani in his 'Rūmiyyāt,' which he created while imprisoned by his Roman kinsmen. Hence the title, 'Palestiniyyat of the Poet Dr. Hajar Al Binali.' If Abu Firas's 'Rūmiyyāt' embodies a spatial state, then Dr. Hajar's 'Palestiniyyat' embodies a temporal one. - Dr. Khalid Al-Jabr
