These notebooks… Fifteen years have passed over these (Notebooks) that lived more in prison cells than on the streets—the prison loaf eaten for long years by Palestinian communists in the Gaza Strip and their nationalist militant friends—who, despite the conditions of siege, isolation, pursuit, and successive police strikes, wrote one of the important symphonies in their people's history.

They were the ones who engineered and ignited the historic March Intifada against the project to house and settle refugees in the Sinai Peninsula in 1955 and brought it down. The first Palestinian martyr to fall by gunfire in the street was the martyr of the Communist Party in the Gaza Strip: Comrade Husni Bilal, embracing his party's slogan: – They wrote the Sinai project with ink, and we will erase the Sinai project with blood. And under the iron heel of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip in 1956, they were the first voice and the first hand of resistance and the backbone of the United National Front.
