This work tells the complete story of former U.S. intelligence employee Edward Snowden, who decided to share it with writer Glenn Greenwald, unveiling details and secrets for the first time in this book. In May 2013, Glenn Greenwald, author of "No Place to Hide," traveled to Hong Kong to meet a secretive informant claiming to have astonishing evidence of widespread U.S. government surveillance, insisting on communicating through highly encrypted channels. It turned out that this source was none other than Edward Snowden, a contractor with the National Security Agency, whose revelations about the agency’s extensive, systematic violations became some of the most sensational and widespread news in modern history, sparking intense debates on national security and privacy. For the first time, Greenwald brings all the pieces together, recounting his meetings with Snowden, some of which were published by the British Guardian newspaper, and adding new and updated information, exposing the NSA's abuse of power through documents previously provided by Snowden that reveal dangerous secrets about the agency's involvement in planting surveillance devices inside internet routers and switches, monitoring all electronic communications, including aircraft communications, and funding foreign intelligence agencies to gather information on specific targets, as well as economic espionage and social media penetration to monitor citizens' private activities.
