In his work "Nayl al-Awtar," Imam Al-Shawkani provides a commentary on "Muntaqa al-Akhbar fi al-Ahkam" by Imam Sheikh Majd ibn Taymiyyah. The original book compiles hadiths on legal rulings, encompassing a wide range of evidence for various issues, making it a refuge for scholars and researchers. Due to some doubts regarding the authenticity of some of its evidence and the preference between conflicting proofs, Imam Al-Shawkani undertook the task of explaining this work. He adopted a concise approach in his commentary, avoiding many detailed sub-discussions, especially in matters with little disagreement. However, he elaborated on issues with significant debate to clarify the preponderant view based on decisive evidence. Additionally, he gave special importance to the hadith itself, clarifying its status, explaining its unfamiliar terms, and deriving all its implications. In most cases, he also referred to other hadiths on the same topic not mentioned in the original book, for the benefit of students of hadith. In some instances, he pointed out the correct pronunciation of a narrator's name or their status as a note of caution, particularly in places prone to distortion or error.
