Naguib Mahfouz for Morning Roses

Morning Roses, the first and second parts of the book, are very similar to Morning and Evening Talk. Naguib Mahfouz, having reached an advanced age, recalls childhood memories in Al-Hussein and the various families. The aroma of the alley here was strongly present, and the magical storytelling of Mahfouz captivated me as usual. The story may seem routine or slow-paced, but it is characterized by different characters and numerous human models, not lacking clear political implications from the 1919 Revolution to the 1952 coup, and even the setback and Sadat's openness. The third and final story in the collection is also enjoyable, and perhaps the best. I know that my friend, who read the book with me, and many others may be put off by this narrative style, writing the story as just a story. But I admit that for me, Mahfouz and the tale remain an icon I have yet to demolish, nor do I think I will.
