What was I to do? As a child playing in a square not far from my neighborhood or my home, near the pale and sad shadows of Eid. I played with the naivety of a child who thought he would find a bicycle waiting for him in the morning, one that his peers played with without him in the deserted square... Pale and sad shadows stretched out that distant morning to cover what remained of my days, which I did not shape as I wished, but as they wished, and to shade my memory—the memory of a small child playing alone without a bicycle in a deserted square, with no one to hear or witness.
