The Arab world is currently undergoing a series of economic, social, and political changes linked to a set of global, regional, and local variables. As part of the global community, and amidst the changes of globalization, cultural invasion, openness, and the technological, knowledge, and communication revolution, Arab society has been affected in various aspects of its cultural, social, and economic life and systems, including the educational system. The educational system is the largest system in any society, encompassing various beneficiaries and those responsible for its administration and operation. It includes different educational stages with their diverse schools, which host millions of pupils and students, and these institutions impact millions of families in the community.

The school community is an integral, and perhaps the most important, part of the larger society due to the high human density it contains, which is diverse in stages, quality of education, and cultures. As part of the larger society, the school community is influenced by and influences it, considering the larger society as a holistic system composed of interconnected and interdependent parts. The students belonging to this school community are also part of the larger society, and they are affected by its problems and challenges, in addition to facing issues related to the school environment itself. These problems arise from the mix of different cultures, various methods of socialization, and the realistic outcomes of interaction specific to the school community's nature. These issues require attention and confrontation to prevent them from escalating, which falls outside the scope of a teacher's function and specialty.

Hence, an urgent need arose in the school setting for a profession concerned with the academic, social, and educational problems of children, leading to the emergence of social work. It is a specialized profession for working with people in all forms—as individuals, groups, or communities—and it also focuses on the therapeutic, preventive, and developmental aspects of human well-being. Social work entered the school field in America in 1906 and in the Arab world in Egypt in 1949. It has become an effective profession in the school setting in Arab societies, represented in all schools across the Arab world by social workers and supervisors who work within the framework of social education or school social work.

The school environment is considered one of the richest fields for the professional practice of social work due to its human density, containing nearly 25% of the society's population (pupils and students) and 2% (employees). It is a field that directly affects almost the entire population, represented by the Arab family, or indirectly through its outcomes and outputs.
