The topics of social, economic, and political development continue to be of great importance, especially in third-world countries. Therefore, they constantly require continuous research and study due to their vital connection to human life. From this perspective, countries with their diverse cultures and orientations are always searching for ways, means, and methods to achieve the optimal investment of their resources and capabilities, aiming for an acceptable standard of dignified life for their societies. Many developed countries have recognized the importance of development, participating in it, benefiting from it, and interacting with it for the sake of progress and modernization, which positively reflects on community development, improving life, raising the level of services, and activating resources to enhance the quality of life and overcome social, political, and economic problems that hinder development. In this context, third-world countries, classified as underdeveloped, have been unable to align their social ambitions with their circumstances based on uninvested capabilities. They still rely on loans and aid, which have become a burden due to their subordination to the policies of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, who work to expand the consumer market for the products of advanced Western countries, thus making them dependent on others in their developmental actions. Development and reform in third-world countries are urgent demands in the modern era, especially with challenges such as education, health, and improving the general human condition in various economic and social fields at all levels. The possibility of developing third-world countries necessarily means understanding their nature, cultural background, and social structure in the past and present, and the relationships between them and other countries, including the developed world. Additionally, certain characteristics must be realized in developing countries if they wish to grow and progress, without necessarily adopting the traits and values of developed countries or following their steps on the path of development. However, there is a necessity to adopt and encourage certain values and characteristics that can contribute to activating the development process. At the same time, political and economic independence and overcoming dependency are of great importance for the success of development in third-world countries. Another crucial issue is self-reliance to achieve development, as many developing countries possess abundant local resources, whether natural or human. These resources can be invested rationally without waste or neglect, which helps the concerned country achieve independent development, especially if it can join economic and political blocs or groupings that may arise among third-world countries. There are also some alternatives available to developing countries, such as those based on small-scale, self-reliant production that can receive local encouragement and achieve the prerequisites for success. In this book, we attempt to discuss and evaluate the reality of development in third-world countries and the obstacles that stand as barriers, such as poverty, underdevelopment, political obstacles, customs, traditions, values, and social structure. We also study developmental media as a key and important partner in any successful development. The media has major tasks in mobilizing and persuading citizens to participate effectively in all developmental activities. We have also reviewed the best methods that the media can follow to perform its basic tasks, and we hope that we have succeeded in this endeavor.
