• Hussein Mroue was born in 1910 (according to his ID, though he believed it was 1908) in the village of Haddatha, Bint Jbeil district, in southern Lebanon. He received his early education in Bint Jbeil and Nabatieh.
• In 1924, he traveled to Iraq to study religious sciences, Arabic language, and literature at the University of Najaf, completing his studies in 1938.
• In 1948, he actively participated in the Iraqi national popular uprising (Al-Wathbah) that overthrew the colonial British Portsmouth Treaty with the then-monarchical government. When a reactionary regime returned and Nuri al-Said was reinstated to power in May 1949, an order was issued to deport Hussein Mroue from Iraq. He returned to his homeland Lebanon in June 1949.
• In Lebanon, he began writing his famous daily column "With the Caravan" in the Al-Hayat newspaper. He co-founded and edited the leftist magazine "National Culture" from 1952 until it ceased publication in 1959. He also contributed to editing Al-Tariq magazine from the 1950s and supervised its editing from the late 1960s until his assassination. He also participated in editing the newspapers Al-Nidaa and Al-Akhbar.
• His works include: "With the Caravan" (1952), "Literary Issues" (1956), "The Iraqi Revolution" (1985), "Critical Studies in Light of the Critical Method," "Materialist Tendencies in Arab-Islamic Philosophy" (1978), "Studies in Islam" (co-authored, 1978), "On Heritage and Sharia" (1983), "New Titles for Old Faces" (1984), "Our Heritage... How Do We Know It?" (1986), and "Studies in Thought and Literature" (published posthumously, 1993). He also authored numerous studies, research papers, and articles in various fields of knowledge.
• Hussein Mroue was assassinated in his home on February 17, 1987, at the age of 79.
