From the book: The most important thing that people discovered over the years, and many have repeated, is that Masa'da left a part of herself there, in the very place where Ahmed was martyred. Some said that what people see is merely her shadow, while others swore that this girl is a saint in a woman's clothes, or an angel from the heavens. What is certain in all this is that the beautiful girl was no longer affected by time or even climate changes; she was beautiful and remained so. Everyone around her grows old and ages while she stays the same, growing ever more beautiful and youthful, menstruating and waiting for a real man to create life. Some affirmed that this miracle occurred so that Ahmed's blood would remain fresh and pure, never to be forgotten, and that she might be preparing to reclaim the part of herself that remained there, watching the blood of Ahmed and Abi Saleh as it flowed among the trees.
