The topics addressed by macroeconomics are of great importance to all countries, both developed and developing, as they reflect the policies adopted by different nations to influence the direction and course of the national economy. Additionally, it tackles the problems and issues facing the national economy, so its impact is not limited to individuals as producers or consumers but extends to all members of society.

The goal of any economic system is to address the economic problems facing the national economy and find suitable solutions or mitigate their severity, especially considering that these problems have become more complex today than in the past. Despite the abundance of Arab and foreign literature on macroeconomics, this work represents a qualitative addition to addressing some fundamental issues in the field. It also aims to provide simplified material on macroeconomic issues, ultimately serving as a comprehensive reference covering the "Macroeconomics" course curriculum as recognized in Western and Arab universities.

The book employs a descriptive analysis approach for some issues and quantitative analysis for others, tailored to the student's comprehension at this academic stage. It incorporates equations, mathematical formulas, and graphs, along with practical examples to clarify concepts that may be difficult to grasp theoretically. This study is a summary of a series of lectures on macroeconomics, which encouraged the authors to develop and present it in this modest form as a humble gift to the Arab student, researcher, and thinker. Despite the great efforts made to prepare this book in its final form with a high level of caution to avoid intellectual and analytical errors, this remains a preliminary attempt in which we do not claim perfection, but rather aim to enrich the Arab library with this modest effort.

The book consists of seven chapters:

  • Chapter One: Presents basic and theoretical concepts in the field of macroeconomics.
  • Chapter Two: Discusses the topic of national income in terms of concepts, importance, measurement methods, and the problems facing its calculation and how to address them.
  • Chapter Three: Covers the theory of income and employment and the hypotheses of both classical and modern theories in determining the equilibrium level of income and employment, highlighting consumption, investment, government spending, and net foreign spending functions and their impact on economic activity, in addition to the consumption and investment multiplier and the accelerator.
  • Chapter Four: Addresses the topics of inflation and unemployment, their causes, and how to tackle such phenomena.
  • Chapter Five: Focuses on money and banking. The first part deals with money, its importance, types, basic functions, and monetary systems. The second part discusses banks, their various types, importance, and basic functions of central and commercial banks.
  • Chapter Six: Deals with foreign trade, its importance in economic activity, classical and modern theories of foreign trade, and different trade policies.
  • Chapter Seven: Addresses economic development. The first part deals with economic underdevelopment, its common features, and causes. The second part discusses economic development, its requirements, and various development strategies.
