Not every skilled poet can craft prose with the same proficiency, nor can every imaginative prose writer excel in poetry as they do in prose. In Arabic literature, there are talented poets who, upon leaving the realm of poetry, produce ordinary, unimaginative prose, and proficient prose writers who, when venturing into poetry, remain prosaic, their verses lacking brilliance. A poet's mark is their ability to make the reader forget the structure in their verse, while a creative prose writer captivates with their crafting allure. Hence, the awe of creativity both poetry (in verses) and prose (in composition) imparts. Few are blessed with the ability to dazzle with both their poetic lines and their prose. This book examines poetry and prose systems, focusing on innovation and foundations. It doesn't define what poetry or prose is—as such definitions are elusive like fragrance or a breeze—but rather explains how each is crafted within clear systems that regulate poetic and prose ventures, following strict principles, advancing to the point of creativity without deviating from these foundations. Henry Zghaib has been an influential Lebanese poet in Lebanese and Arabic cultural life since 1972, through his works, activities, and roles. He is currently the President of the Lebanese Heritage Center at the Lebanese American University, President of the Council of Writers and Composers in Lebanon, and President of the International Association for Gibran Studies (Lebanon and Middle East region).
