Fakher Akel, a Syrian psychologist and professor of educational psychology at the University of Damascus, has authored several books in psychology and its sciences. He was the first to compile a psychology dictionary in Arabic and was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit of Excellent Class.

Born to a middle-class family, his father was a financial manager in Al-Bab, Aleppo Province, where he completed his primary schooling. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology from the American University of Beirut, and a PhD in educational psychology from the University of London.
