In the West, they say “Dress to Impress,” meaning to dress up to please others. It seems I accepted this from Google but not from my father, who would annoyingly repeat “eat what you like, and dress what pleases others” to sanctify the shemagh and prevent me from wearing jeans and shorts in the presence of men. The outer appearance has always complemented the substance, merely serving as an introduction in a long essay or a musical piece... except in the case of women's fashion, perfumes, and shoes. I woke from a deep nap on the couch and found myself staring at nothing, trying to clear my head from a heavy headache. With a reluctant effort, I moved towards the kitchen, which is situated at the right corner of the living room, occupying a three-meter space, to prepare black coffee. I believe coffee represents my journey from complexity to simplicity, from confusion to awareness.
