Kiki's Delivery Service by Eiko Kadono

Eiko Kadono wrote this novel in 1985, inspired by a drawing by her daughter depicting a witch flying in the sky while listening to the radio. In 1989, the novel was adapted into a film by Studio Ghibli, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The author did not give her witch, Kiki, supernatural powers; she wanted her to be a regular girl facing everyday challenges like any other girl her age.
