College student Devin Jones takes a summer job at Joyland, hoping to forget the girl who broke his heart. But the pain he suffers is compounded by far more terrifying things: the legacy of a vicious crime, the fate of a dying child, and grim truths about life—and what comes after—that will change his world forever.

A captivating story of love and loss, of growing up and growing old, and of those who don't get to grow up at all because death takes them too soon. "Joyland" is Stephen King at the peak of his storytelling powers.

From the novel's atmosphere: "This story, as published by the Journal-Herald in Waycross." There was a picture showing a grim-faced policeman holding a plaster cast of tire tracks. Theories say he dumped her where he cut her throat. The novel says the tire tracks belong to a truck. "He threw her away like trash," I said. "Just a guess, but a realistic one." He handed me another copy of a newspaper clipping. "Here's number two. Claudine Sharp from Rocky Mount, right here in North Carolina; white, twenty-three years old. Found dead in a local theater on August 2, 1963. The movie playing was Lawrence of Arabia, which happened to be very long and loud. The person who wrote the story quotes an anonymous police source saying the man might have cut her throat during one of the battle scenes. Pure speculation, of course. He left a blood-stained shirt and gloves, so he must have left wearing the shirt he had on underneath...".

Five victims, and perhaps more, killed by one man, in Joyland. A captivating, breathtaking tale set in a strange and amazing world.
