The author, Abu al-Sa'adat al-Shaybani, reviewed the work of Razin ibn Mu'awiya al-Saraqusti, which compiled the hadiths from al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasa'i. Finding that Razin's book contained many hadiths but also omitted many from the six canonical sources, and included others not found in them, he undertook a comprehensive revision. He refined the book, reorganized its chapters, and improved its accessibility. He added the missing hadiths from the original sources and provided explanations for unusual terms, grammatical points, and meanings to enhance clarity, naming his work "Jami' al-Usul fi Ahadith al-Rasul" (The Compendium of Principles in the Hadiths of the Messenger).
