'Jahiliya' is a novel that condemns anything diminishing women's value in a male-dominated society. Lin tried to grasp why her presence wasn’t enough for her mother and why it couldn’t bring her joy like a son's. In an Eastern society, a male is perceived as the support for a female, which humorously highlights the deprivation of women from perceiving themselves as full-fledged humans with equal rights to life. Lin still recalls her mother's happiness buying clothes for the anticipated son and her certainty about carrying a boy. Upon returning from the hospital with him in her arms, her face glowed with immense joy, and she said, 'Kiss the head of your support.'
