Trade between countries, in its simplest form, involves the export and import of goods and services. This trade has become an undeniable reality, making it impossible to imagine the world without it. No country, whether developed or developing, can isolate its economy from the rest of the world. Since the mid-20th century, trade has expanded beyond the movement of goods and services to include the movement of individuals and capital. Consequently, the focus has shifted to what is known as commercial, monetary, and financial relations between different countries—this is the field of International Economics.
The book covers both theoretical and practical aspects. The practical section addresses foreign trade policies, foreign exchange systems, balance of payments adjustment policies, the procedures and requirements for economic integration, and the objectives, mechanisms, and institutions of the global economic system (commercial, monetary, and financial). This is explored through relevant theories such as foreign trade theory, foreign exchange theory, balance of payments theories, and customs union theories.
