Shukri Aziz Madi was a Syrian poet and writer. Born in Damascus in 1912, he passed away in 1957.

Madi was born into a family of scholars, lawyers, and judges. He studied law at the University of Damascus but never practiced as a lawyer. He published his first poem in 1934 and his first poetry collection in 1936.

Madi's poetry is characterized by simplicity, clarity, and brevity. He wrote about themes such as love, loss, exile, and death in simple language easily understandable even to those not proficient in Arabic.

Shukri Aziz Madi is a notable contemporary Arab literature writer, and his works have been translated into many languages and earned prestigious awards.

He studied Arabic literature at the University of Damascus, graduating with honors. He published his first novel in 1957 "Morning of the Storm." In 1963, he became a member of the Arab Writers' Union and editor of the literary magazine "Al-Fajr."

In 1964, he released his second novel "The Road to Mecca," which received much critical acclaim. He then became the editor of "Al-Fajr" magazine until 1966 when he left Syria under accusations of conspiracy against President Hafez Al-Assad and moved to Beirut, continuing to write novels and articles critical of the Assad regime.
