It is uncommon for us to stand long before this immense linguistic carriage full of synonyms. It's rare for one to put a hand in a pocket and scratch their head in confusion over the choice of a particular word. Even though the contents of the carriage often appear similar and symbolically equivalent, an involuntary obsession with uniqueness and difference sometimes arises and can't be avoided. Occasionally, this obsession is misguided, leading to a subtle shift in meaning, thus losing most of its charm and impact. For instance, I still believe that if I were to use the word 'horses,' it implies less escape and noise compared to saying 'steeds' or 'steeds', and 'knife' seems a trivial and excessively soft word in the face of the bloodiness of a blade.
