Neuropsychology is a significant and modern scientific discipline across universities and scientific research centers focused on health, psychology, and neurology. This field is directly or indirectly related to other scientific subjects such as medicine, psychiatry, mental illness, mental health, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, psychological counseling, special education, and other specialties.
Without this science, it is impossible to understand and interpret human behavior in a precise, scientific manner. This field has its own history, methodology, and methods for research and diagnosis, which has given it special importance to neuropsychologists and clinical psychologists who benefit from neurological information and expertise in diagnosis, treatment, interpreting results, and conducting accurate and comprehensive assessments of injuries, disorders, or diseases.
Unfortunately, this science has not received sufficient attention in the Arab world, where there is a lack of scientific literature and references, and a scarcity of research, leading to a void in the Arabic library. This is despite the significant progress made by neuropsychology in universities and research centers globally, and the pressing need of our students and researchers in the Arab world for such important and rare specializations. The situation in our Arab world still requires cooperation and effort to develop this science and establish a sound scientific foundation that benefits society, university students, and research centers.
This book is based on the latest neuropsychological studies in the world and utilizes the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V). Its fourteen chapters include a historical overview of neuropsychology, scientific research methods, brain anatomy, sensory-motor functions, brain lobes, and cognitive, behavioral, and social brain functions. It also covers disorders of perception, movement, language, memory, dementia, thought and mood disorders, and the prognosis or recovery of cases.
