The book 'History of the Caliphs' is being published for the first time based on six handwritten copies. It chronicles the history of caliphs, the leaders of the believers, managing the affairs of the nation from the time of our master Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may God be pleased with him, to the era of the author, according to their chronological order. The author, Imam al-Suyuti, may God have mercy on him, mentioned in the biography of each caliph the unusual events that occurred during their days, as well as the prominent religious figures of the era. The author stated that the motivation to write this book stemmed from the need for biographical encapsulations of notable figures, which is beloved to scholars. Many have compiled works mixing prominent figures without exhaustively covering them. Gathering such information can be cumbersome and tedious, thus the author aimed to dedicate separate books to different groups for those interested. These include works on prophets, a summary from the 'al-Iṣābah' by Ibn Hajar, a comprehensive book on interpreters of the Quran, a concise one on the ranks of hadith scholars derived from al-Dhahabi, a distinguished work on grammarians and linguists unlike any before, as well as books on jurists, saints, and other scholars. Thus, notable figures from the nation are mostly covered. The author relied on existing works on jurists and Quran reciters due to their abundance. Judges are included among these figures, and no one remains from the notable ranks except for the caliphs, whose stories attract great interest. Therefore, this book was dedicated to them. It avoids mentioning anyone who claimed the caliphate without achieving it and excludes certain factions. Important chapters with indispensable insights are included at the beginning. The astonishing events are based on al-Dhahabi’s history and depend on its content as stated at the start. Due to its unique narrative and substance, 'History of the Caliphs' is of great benefit today for both rulers and citizens. Dar Al-Minhaj published this verified and beautifully printed edition, hoping it serves the community, leaders, and followers alike.
