This book engages with the epistemological question concerning the essence of humanity. Since this essence takes on multiple and varied forms and manifestations, we have sought through this collective work to examine it from the perspective of hermeneutics, which we consider a significant cognitive paradigm capable of producing knowledge excavations that can touch upon human existence in its religious, philosophical, anthropological, aesthetic, and literary dimensions.

Engaging with this intellectual concern, a group of researchers has presented solid and profound research papers from intersecting yet distinct viewpoints. The research in this book is divided into several axes: the first is primarily concerned with questioning the hermeneutics of human essence and existence from a philosophical perspective (Michel Foucault, Gadamer); the second examines it from a religious angle, both Western (Jean Greisch) and Arab (Sadr al-Din al-Shirazi); the third from an anthropological perspective (Clifford Geertz); the fourth views it in its psychological dimension (William James); the fifth approaches it from a literary and artistic-aesthetic standpoint, and the sixth infers it from a rhetorical angle.

Consequently, it becomes clear that understanding and perceiving the essence of humanity does not necessitate a hermeneutic approach confined to a specific field. Rather, it requires an awareness of the importance of synergy between various fields of knowledge concerned with exploring the essence of humanity as something dynamic; that is, it is built on continuous, renewed transformation. It is hoped that this book will provide insights and answers to lingering questions in the mind of the interested reader.
