"In the loneliness of your prison, you see your loved ones more because there is time to spare, and they come to you in your hardship, allowing you to contemplate their faces as long as you wish." The Granada Trilogy is a series of three novels by Egyptian author Radwa Ashour: Granada, Maryama, and Departure. The events take place in the Kingdom of Granada after the fall of all the Islamic kingdoms in Andalusia. The trilogy begins in 1491, the year Granada fell following the treaty, which King Abu Abdullah Muhammad XII agreed to, handing over his rule to the monarchs of Castile and Aragon. It ends with the last remaining protagonists defying the decision to expel Muslims, realizing that death lies in leaving Andalusia, not in staying.
