When I first read the book, I felt as if a three-dimensional scream took me to the reality we flee from daily, the tragic truth we hide under our daily masks. We are a society accustomed to pain, and no Arab writer is unfamiliar with it. Ibrahim Issa talks about his three-part adventure, his pen wavering over the bereavement of his father, a joyful young departure, and a lover whose role as killer, victim, or both is uncertain, finally arriving at a nation saturated with sectarian poison. It's our reality; losing a father means losing a homeland, and losing a homeland certainly means losing a lover. Love is a homeland for each of us, and who doesn't seek it? Losing love means losing everything, which is what the author intended with his unique style.
