The poet Hafez Shirazi is regarded as one of the most sacred symbols in Iran, known for his poetry's religious philosophy, wisdom, and intellectual space about the essence of existence and its purposes. Filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, also a poet, photographer, painter, and musician, dives into the poetic experience of Hafez Shirazi, in an unprecedented boldness among all works that have tackled the poet's divan. Armed with Rimbaud's famous saying, "We must be absolutely modern," Kiarostami selects certain verses from Hafez's poems, separates them from rhythm and music, offering a new perspective on reading them. Thus, Hafez Shirazi becomes, through Kiarostami's narrative, a book aiming to shed the mystical halo around Hafez and present him as a terrestrial being, revealing the wisdom these poems abound with, cut in a way that gives them their deserved brilliance. The book includes an introduction/study about "Hafez Shirazi" followed by the diwan's poems: "Love and Youth," "In Praise of the Beloved," "Dream of Union," "Breeze of Paradise," "The Soul's Separation," "Night of Separation," "Bitter Wine," "The Flaws and Merits of Wine," "Discourse in Absence," and other poems.
