Geometrical optics is a branch of the science of light, which is part of physics. However, it can be classified as an independent field due to the significant interest it receives and its wide range of applications in technology, engineering, science, medicine, and more. Therefore, this book is a modest attempt, drawing on several references, to provide students in relevant specializations with the fundamentals of geometrical optics as part of their academic curricula.

Like other sciences, the understanding of optics is incomplete without connecting its theoretical aspects to practical, real-life applications. The book reflects this by linking many concepts to the surrounding environment.

The book is divided into seven main chapters:

• Chapter One: Provides an overview of the history of the science of light, its theories, and attempts to calculate its speed.
• Chapter Two and Three: Cover the phenomena of reflection and refraction, their applications, and image formation through plane mirrors.
• Chapter Four and Five: Study image formation using spherical mirrors and thin lenses.
• Chapter Six: Reviews optical instruments.
• Chapter Seven: Discusses some optical defects in the human eye and other devices.

Chapters one through five include a set of solved examples to deepen understanding. Finally, the book is appended with practical experiments, a glossary of terms, and a list of important physical constants.
