This book explores general semiotics: its foundations and concepts, viewing it as a theoretical space for questioning the laws and boundaries of semiotic knowledge. Such questioning can enhance its scientific content, define its subject, harmonize its methodology, and establish its previously neglected references, as it now forms a field of research and an open catalog of interests. General semiotics is a philosophy of concepts, avoiding specific analyses, aiming to present a series of general propositions that encompass various semiotic phenomena; a philosophy avoiding premature completion, steering discourse towards relativity without ideological dominance.

This suggests that the essence of general semiotics lies in the principles of comparative analysis of various specific semiotics. The author, through this study, seeks to establish the theoretical framework of general semiotics and present model propositions to structure the sprawling concepts of sign theory, crystallizing them in a coherent, knowledge-driven framework.

The effort revolves around identifying key concepts crucial for the project's foundational establishment of general semiotics. The aim is to define the fundamental reference for theoretical paths in general semiotics and to present them, simplified and explained, to the Arab reader, testing their procedural limits.

To delve deeper into the dilemmas of general semiotics, the researcher divided the book into two chapters: The first chapter is titled: The Stakes of the Linguistic Model and includes six sections: The first section is titled: The Semiotic System and the Linguistic Framework and is divided into four topics: 1- Signifier and Signified, 2- The Arbitrariness of the Sign, 3- Value and Opposition, 4- Sign Production: Composition and Substitution. The second section is titled: Communication Semiotics: Concepts and Mechanisms, and is divided into four topics: 1- Communication Network, 2- Message and Code, 3- Louis Brito and the Law of Semiosis, 4- Degrees of Intentionality between Communication and Contact. The third section is titled: Semantics, Linguistic Boundaries and Semiotic Horizons and is divided into three topics: 1- Roland Barthes and Semantics, 2- Natural Sign Semantics, 3- Image and the Principle of Iconic Similarity. The fourth section deals with: Hierarchical Logic and the Semiotics of Descriptive Language. The fifth section reveals: The Double System between Designation and Connotation, and is divided into three topics: 1- Designative Semiotics, 2- Descriptive Semiotics, 3- Connotative Semiotics. The sixth section is titled: Scientific Semiotics and is divided into three topics: 1- Descriptive Semiotics, 2- Descriptive Semantics, 3- Descriptive Communication.

The second chapter is titled: Open Meanings and the Logic of Tertiarity, includes three crucial sections: the first section is titled: The Three Categories and the Dynamics of Open Meanings, and is divided into four topics: 1- The Model of the Sign - the Idea, 2- Categories of Thought and Scopé, 3- Dynamics and Openness, 4- The Field of Interpretation and Hermeneutic Codes. The second section is titled: Tertiary Branching and Principles of Openness and is divided into two topics: 1- Annotations and Hierarchies, 2- Representation, Reference, and Interpretation. The third section is titled: The Visual Sign and the Discourse of Tertiarity, and is divided into three topics: 1- The Facade and the Scale of Architecture, 2- Pictorial Image, 3- Living Iconicity.

A significant study employing the descriptive approach and the logic of direct presentation, with a style characterized by clarity, analysis, presentation, and critique, aiming to crystallize ideas in a language seeking a scientific writing style. The author's inclination towards specialization in this study did not prevent him from adopting an educational method in many areas; using clarity, demonstration, representation, and approximation.
