'Semiotics' as an Arabic term, akin to words like 'chemistry' and 'physics', signifies knowledge, focusing on 'signs'. Referring to the 'Lisan Al-Arab', the terms relate to 'markers', such as those on sheep. Thus, semiotics examines sign systems in human society.
