The Gaza Deputation during the Mamluk period refers to the southern area of the Palestinian coastal plain on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a narrow strip to the northeast of the Sinai Peninsula. This region, one of two isolated areas within the borders of the British Mandate of Palestine, remained outside the control of Zionist forces during the 1948 war and did not become part of the newly established State of Israel. It covers approximately 1.33% of Palestine's territory.
