About the Book

This book contains a collection of secret British government documents concerning Arab countries and issues. It includes reports written by British diplomats who worked in various Arab nations about the events they witnessed from the windows of their missions—sometimes even reaching out and intervening. The author has meticulously translated these documents, supplementing them with introductions, commentaries, and discussions that illuminate various aspects of the topics to establish the facts. Most of the documents in this book date back to the mid-1950s and were highly classified at the time they were written.

About the Author

Najdat Fathi Safwat (1923–2013) was an Iraqi diplomat and writer. He graduated from the College of Law in Baghdad and continued his studies at the University of London. He joined the Iraqi diplomatic service in 1945, spending nearly 23 years working in London, Amman, Cairo, Jeddah, Paris, Ankara, Washington, and Moscow. He served as Director-General of the Political Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being appointed ambassador to China, after which he resigned to dedicate himself to writing on diplomatic and historical affairs. His publications with Dar Al Saqi include "The Arabian Peninsula in British Documents" (7 volumes), "Diplomatic Tales," "Saleh Jabr: A Political Biography," and "This Day in History" (3 volumes).
