Monsignor Abdo Tawfiq Yacoub was born in Majdal Al-Aqoura, Byblos district. His primary education was at Our Lady of Workers School, Bouchrieh and Saint John the Apostle School, Beirut. He completed his secondary education at the Central Seminary of the Jesuit Fathers in Ghazir. He holds a degree in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was ordained as a priest on June 29, 1975, by His Holiness Pope Paul VI at Saint Peter’s Cathedral in Rome. He obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of Paris. He served as an assistant at the parish of Saint Honoré d’Eylau, Paris, and as a parish priest in Al-Fidar and its surroundings in Byblos. He was a professor of Canon Law at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik and La Sagesse University in Beirut. His judicial positions include being a judge at the United Maronite Primary Court and the Armenian Patriarchal Court. He was appointed by Blessed Pope John Paul II as a Promoter of Justice at both the Roman Rota and the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, and later as a judge at the Roman Rota. He has written several books and articles on history and canon law, including ‘The Scholar Abbot Nasrallah Shlek Al-Aqouri,’ published by Dar Al-Farabi, 2011.
