After a complete separation for ten years, it took only five minutes, the duration of the call, for him to understand from his friend's talk about his three children, their eating, drinking, and laughing habits, that there were dramatic changes in which he had no place. He also did not have to listen to Nazeih's dissatisfaction with his eldest son's math exam results, as if life had become entirely dependent on what his children did at school. At that moment, Moussa realized that the past he longed for was gone forever. He called another friend, Fahmi, who warmly welcomed him, but was in a hurry to hang up because a customer was waiting to buy a dozen Chinese plates from his shop. He felt a wave of despair, sensing that places were now tailored to their occupants.
