The memory still storms within me in the memory of Abdul Rahman Al-Bahijan, whose cell was next to mine. He was bound by his hands, hanging from its door... He would writhe in pain, hurling curses at his jailers and tormentors with cultural pride against the obscurantists, for the sake of human joy and the homeland! I live the debris of a memory within his memory, and I find him alive in my own... and I marvel at a memory that revives bones when they are but dust!

About the Author: Ishaq Al-Sheikh Yaqoub, born in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1927. In late 1956, he fled to Bahrain, and from there to Lebanon and Syria, where he wrote for several newspapers and magazines. In 1965, he settled in Lebanon and Syria and published a series of studies. Since 1976, he returned to his homeland publicly and engaged in cultural, intellectual, and journalistic activities.
