This book is one of the first Arabic works to enrich the Arab library on the topic of “Ethics of Public Relations Practice.” The Arab library lacks this type of study, not only in the field of media but also in management ethics in general, with very few exceptions. Therefore, this is considered the first specialized book in the Arab world on the subject of public relations ethics. It addresses the concept of media and public relations ethics and their importance in Arab institutions. The issue of media and public relations ethics in the Arab world, on both conceptual and practical levels, is a significant field of knowledge that requires systematic study and organized experience to provide a sound basis for dealing with various problems and situations faced by institutions, which are often characterized by conflicts of interest. It is clear that the increasing negative impacts of ethical scandals on one hand, and the side effects of ethical reputation in employment on the other, have made institutions more interested in management ethics in general and public relations in particular. Regardless, the progress of societies depends less on their material and technical capabilities and more on their human resources' ability to adhere to a set of ethics and professional behaviors. Given this interest in ethics at both international and local levels, there was an urgent need to establish work ethics in the field of public relations and to assess their application in practice within public relations departments in our Arab institutions.
This book focuses on revealing the importance of ethics and their role in public relations institutions, identifying the most prominent factors influencing the ethical decisions of practitioners, and recognizing the key professional and ethical qualities of those working in public relations in Arab and Islamic institutions. It also covers the ethical standards and controls for dealing with colleagues, society, subordinates, and management. It aims to assess the extent of public relations practitioners' awareness of their ethical responsibilities and duties, trace the motives for deviating from professional ethics, identify negative ethical practices, and determine deterrents. Additionally, it examines practitioners' relationship with and attitudes toward codes of honor, ultimately providing recommendations to help instill professional ethics among public relations workers and to develop a structured code of honor for the profession in our Arab institutions, which would improve performance and enhance its image.
