It has been destined for humanity to pay with its body and health the price of scientific and industrial progress, which is reflected in the pollution of air and food, the spread of toxic gases and deadly radiation on land, in the air, and at sea, and in fatal diseases, pain, and suffering that disturb the peace of the secure. To avert these tragedies and combat this rampant disease, scientists are sharpening their resolve, researching, and testing to innovate a cure for every ailment.

The environment is the issue of today, as it affects human health in the village, city, road, factory, and field. The environment is the issue of the future, as it affects natural resources like the land and its fertility, the air and its purity, and the water and its biological wealth. Interest in environmental issues is not a luxury meant to preserve the beauty and purity of our surroundings, but rather a concern related to human survival, health, production of resources, and our responsibilities towards future generations.

Pollution is considered one of the most significant dangers of our time, threatening our planet and indeed the lives of all living beings, especially humans. Therefore, it was necessary to study the causes of this pollution to eliminate it or control its sources through laboratory and field studies, which are the only source for adding new information to this field of science. Undoubtedly, these new scientific additions are the fruits of the efforts of hands that have been trained in the lab and field on a sound scientific basis, gaining them experience and practice.

Given the great importance of laboratory and field studies in the life sciences, including environmental sciences, in providing opportunities for professors, researchers, and students to perform their tasks in the best way, in line with the modern era's technical and scientific requirements. Therefore, we have written this modest book, with its eight chapters, as an attempt to cover the study of pollution sources for air and water and their various elements from all aspects—from collection methods, analysis methods, and consequently, preparing them for laboratory and field studies to understand their precise structures and basic components for control.

This book also contains illustrative pictures to help maximize its benefit, along with detailed explanations of how to prepare and operate some laboratory and field equipment and tools, so that this book can be used in science faculties at various levels, institutes, and centers for environmental and engineering studies and related sciences. We conclude the humble effort we have made with a prayer to God Almighty that we have succeeded in preparing this book, taking into account the valuable feedback provided by esteemed professors, researchers, and students during the various stages of study and research.
