This study represents an attempt to measure the impact of environmental information characteristics on product design through an exploratory study of the opinions of managers in a sample of industrial joint-stock companies in Nineveh. This topic is of great importance due to its fundamental effects on determining the general direction of the companies' activities. The external environment is generally characterized by rapid changes, which compels these companies to adapt to external environmental factors (including customers, suppliers, competitors, government laws and regulations, and technology), monitor them, and collect the necessary data to achieve their goals. This requires relying on the information resulting from that data as a basis for preparing the companies' product designs, with the aim of offering products with designs that meet customer needs. Therefore, the decision-makers in these companies need information about the external environment in which they operate. They can respond more effectively to the aforementioned environmental factors and control all their internal activities if accurate, comprehensive, and relevant environmental information is available to them in a timely manner, provided that the confidentiality of such information is maintained.
