Econometrics is a branch of economics concerned with the quantitative analysis of actual economic phenomena. This field relies on integrating economic theory, mathematics, and statistical methods into a comprehensive model to measure and analyze economic relationships. However, econometrics is a relatively modern science compared to other economic disciplines. The term 'econometrics' was first used in 1926 by the Norwegian economist Frisch. Early economic thinkers such as H. More, H. Schultz, Frisch, and R. Stone founded the International Econometrics Association in 1930. The application of econometric principles expanded after World War II, with its activities growing to include estimations of parameters or constants for multi-equation economic models. Since then, econometrics has been used as an effective tool for solving economic problems and in economic planning, with its principles recently spreading to third-world countries. Accordingly, the scientific material in this book is presented in a simplified, clear, and straightforward manner, with equations formulated precisely and paired with practical examples and applications. The goal is to equip students with the necessary skills to use econometric indicators and methods for analyzing data related to the phenomena under study. The book also explains econometric methods and their step-by-step calculation using the Eviews software for econometrics, making it beneficial for econometrics students and anyone wishing to use this software for analyzing economic relationships. The book is structured into nine chapters: the first covers basic concepts of econometrics, the second focuses on the simple linear regression model, the third on the multiple linear regression model, the fourth on the general linear regression model, and the fifth on the non-linear regression model. The sixth, seventh, and eighth chapters are dedicated to studying the three main econometric problems: heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation, and multicollinearity.
