Discovering the desert life around us and going on exciting and dangerous adventures was a fun thing for me and my brother 'Ali'. One of our favorite adventures, which we did often, was climbing the large, empty iron oil tanks near our house. These were once used to store Iraqi oil and pump it through huge pipelines to Haifa before the occupation of Palestine. Our adventure begins by climbing the iron ladder of about forty steps, fixed to the outer wall of the tank, until we reach the top. Each tank had an opening at the top, about a meter in diameter, with a special cover fixed with large bolts to seal it tightly, but those covers were left open after the tanks were abandoned.
