The novel narrates a real tragedy experienced by the author, 'Benyamin', when he left his country and wife to pursue his dream of obtaining wealth through honest work in one of the Gulf countries. He did not anticipate the burden of the 'sponsor' system waiting for him, causing him to endure suffering and difficulties. Despite failing to achieve his dream of earning any wealth in the Gulf, he succeeded in turning his struggles into success by writing a novel about his journey and critiquing the sponsor system prevalent in the Gulf. He recalls that this novel became a bestseller in India, based on true events he experienced, and was published. The novel was translated into English as 'Days of the Goat', Penguin 2012, and became a bestseller in its original Malayalam version 'Adujīvitham', winning the 'Kerala Sahitya Academy' award.
