The year 2006 was not a fleeting year in the history of Iraq; it was the bloodiest year in its turbulent and violent history. It was also not a fleeting year in my life, as its course changed forever. This year witnessed the outbreak of killing, displacement, bombings, ruin, destruction, and violence. All parties contributed to fueling the fire of this human slaughterhouse—from terrorists from abroad to resident terrorists, sectarians of all denominations, party militias, former regime loyalists, official security agencies, in addition to occupation forces. They all destroyed Iraq and its people, aided by all forces of evil and war merchants in the world, through Arab and international intelligence, and with the involvement of all neighboring countries—Arabs, Iranians, and others. They burned Iraq with fire and blood, and the spark that ignited the civil war was lit early in the year with the bombing of the two holy shrines in Samarra, plunging the country into a deep darkness of murder, arson, and corruption.
