The subject of “Contemporary Financial Transactions” is a recent addition to the curricula of Islamic Sharia colleges in the Islamic world, introduced by the Faculty of Sharia at the University of Jordan in the second semester of 1995. Despite its novelty, it is of utmost importance due to the significant modern topics it covers, such as intellectual property rights, goodwill (khuluwat), insurance systems, currency, financial and commercial papers, and Islamic banking transactions. These are subjects whose rulings every Muslim needs to know, as they have permeated all aspects of contemporary economic activity.

The Department of Fiqh and its Principles at the Faculty of Sharia, University of Jordan, was entrusted with teaching this course for the first time. After teaching it for two semesters, the author prepared this book in light of the prescribed curriculum, adopting a scientific methodology based on providing a complete picture of contemporary transactions from the perspective of specialists in modern economics and law, clarifying their reality, types, and their economic and legal classification.
