I have never accepted to be stereotypical in anything, or to break my body and soul to fit into a mold that doesn't resemble my features or truly express them. I am not like anyone else, nor do I ask anyone to be like me. When my mother, and my aunt behind her, tried to turn me from a vegetarian child into a meat-eater because being vegetarian is an exception and eating meat is the rule, and it was undesirable for me to deviate from the rule, I rebelled with my three years and delicate bones and held on to my right to be myself—to be an exception, not the rule, because the rule doesn't concern me as long as it doesn't reflect me. And when I sought to be with Hossam, I did it with all my being and with all the love I had, because I felt that my life begins with him and ends with him, not because I absolutely believe in the inevitability of partnership and procreation and the catastrophe of their absence. I was defiant against a society that works to stereotype a girl and turn her into a 'case' from a young age.
