Humanity has lived with climate and weather since its inception. As the horizons of our lives expand, we need broader knowledge about the atmospheric conditions we coexist with daily. General knowledge about weather and climate topics can be beneficial for many people (such as business professionals, athletes, students of geography, earth sciences, biology, social sciences, and others). Many people wish to know the expected weather conditions before leaving their homes for their workplaces.

A clear effort has been made to make the content of this book simplified and understandable. Therefore, the reader of this book will not need a mathematical or physical background to comprehend the explanations of topics related to the basics of climatology. Climatology is concerned with studying atmospheric elements and phenomena through their relationship with humans. The book is intended for those interested in learning the general atmospheric principles necessary for understanding climate and weather, and it is also aimed at university students (especially students of geography and other sciences such as agriculture and environment).

This book contains fourteen chapters that can be grouped into three climatic themes. The first theme covers climatic elements, explained in eight chapters, which the other topics depend on. These chapters include explanations of climate elements, the components and divisions of the atmosphere, energy and radiation, temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, evaporation, humidity, atmospheric stability, in addition to air masses and fronts.

The second section is dedicated to discussing atmospheric phenomena in three chapters (9, 10, 11), covering many climatic topics under the headings of condensation, precipitation, and hazardous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms and tropical cyclones.

The third section includes an explanation of topics in applied and practical climatology in three chapters (12, 13, 14), which contain topics on visible atmospheric phenomena, climatic regions, and climate change.

The book concludes with a set of appendices that include an appendix for the physical equations of some climatic elements, a second appendix for notes on some climatic phenomena, and a third appendix for scientific climatic terms discussed in the book. Each chapter is concluded with a set of questions to measure the reader's comprehension of each topic. I hope I have succeeded in presenting the fundamental topics in climatology and meteorology in an accessible manner for the reader to benefit from, God willing.

Whatever the work, it will not reach perfection. The best description of this is the saying of Imad al-Din al-Isfahani: 'I have seen that no one writes a book in his day but says on the morrow: If this were changed, it would be better; if this were added, it would be improved; if this were brought forward, it would be superior; and if this were omitted, it would be more beautiful. This is one of the greatest lessons, and it is evidence of the prevalence of imperfection among all of humanity.' And we always thank God for His many blessings.
