Change is a matter of utmost importance that occurs through individuals and for individuals themselves; man is the means, the end, and the goal at all times. The challenge facing the 21st-century leader requires playing multiple, renewed, and evolving roles that align with changes and keep pace with the numerous and successive developments in all fields of life. Organizational strategies must change to keep up with modern technology and societal shifts. The challenge for the educational leader lies in the changes within the work environment, as information technology and advanced communication systems have made the world like a small village. Email and computer systems have become features of the era and an integral part of administrative work, making change in educational institutions an inevitable necessity and an urgent demand.
Change is the only continuous process in an educational institution, and an effective leader must possess specific characteristics and traits to face the challenges imposed by the external environment, represented by technological developments on one hand, and the demands of the external community and the internal environment, represented by students and staff, on the other. A leader needs to have certain traits and a distinct style for leading and managing the educational institution they head, with the necessity of finding mechanisms for effective change and gaining the support of employees in bringing about change. A successful leader is one who can exercise new capabilities and innovative means for change for the sake of development, as doing things in an unfamiliar and innovative way always leads to success.
Change management is an emerging skill that requires conscious planning, careful thought, full commitment, and no hesitation, with the need to observe positive and negative reactions to change and handle them appropriately.
This book addresses the process of change in educational institutions, comprising ten chapters. It covers the concept of educational administration, total quality management as a catalyst for change, the meaning and management of change, the objectives and criteria of change, and the essential elements of change management. It also discusses education and change, the importance of change in education, types and areas of change, and theories and strategies of change. It also includes organizational behavior and change, creativity and change management, and conflict and change. The book concludes with a discussion of the theoretical dimensions of organizational conflict.
The idea for this book stemmed from the scarcity of Arabic sources dealing with the topic of change management in educational institutions and the importance and necessity of this topic to enrich the Arabic library. We hope that this humble work provides even a small measure of benefit and support to those in charge of managing educational institutions and to the esteemed readers who are eager to learn about such a subject.
